rural retreat near bus stops - Get away from tech - restore & revive
Perfect rural retreat ¾ mile from bus stops on unpaved road. Farms, open fields and pasture increase in size as the road penetrates away from the busy VIA VOLCAN.
Mid January 2019 I stayed for 11 days during the dry season, sleeping in a hammock in an open air metal roof covered space, no walls and vegetation for flooring. The covered area is big enough for 4 – 6 hammocks, the roof is 8 – 12 feet high. It’s a short walk away from the main building through fields with chicken coops, banana and citrus trees.
First time sleeping in a hammock all night, comfortable.
No bugs and adequate warmth with the addition of 2 more blankets and a tarp drapped over a clothes line forming a tent over the hammock. Reading, dozing in hammock, trips into nearby towns via the extensive bus system were my priorities.
Grateful to get away from technology (wifi, electricity in main building). Hosts Nick & Stefanie are sensitive, welcoming, knowledgeable of the area, supportive, upbeat and cheerful. Just great. I was fortunate to find them and this gem in the highlands of CHRIQUI province Panama

A much needef change of pace
I unexpectedly stumbled upon this oasis and was absolutely blown away. Tucked away in the natural habitat of western Panama, this is the retreat to forget it all. Along with the free fruit and veggies, having medicinal teas at an arms reach really let's you get free. I would recommend to anyone that is traveling or just looking for a down to earth get away.

Already planning my return trip!
Where to begin! The Soursop Hostel has it all! Besides offering all of their guests free fruit, vegetables and medicinal teas, they also provide true genuine hospitality. Down to earth hosts who go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Have great advice on things to do, places to visit and tips on how to get around the bus routes, which proved VERY helpful for a gringo (and solo traveler !). The hostel itself is is an amazing place to recharge and get away. Beautiful, clean rooms with art from past guests; true feeling and character. Best part, HAMMOCKS EVERYWHERE! Amazing place to read a book with an ice cold glass of Soursop tea! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Two minute walk down to a beautiful stream with a homemade rock pool to cool off in, pick yourself some fruit on the way! Home-cooked dinner family style every night on the porch, makes you feet right at home. Worst part about the hostel.... leaving.

Best Place in Chiriqui
Super relaxing place for your soul and body. You can properly get away from all the stress of your daily life by just coming here and enjoying the simple things in life. The people working there are great and super friendly, plus you really get in touch with the local community. Definitively one of the realest places I have traveled to! Don't miss out on this!

The best place for peaceful rejuvenation in the highlands of Panama!!
The Soursop Hostel is in the peaceful hills of Sortova. It's kept clean and the best part there is FREE fruit, vegetables, and medicinal teas for everyone! Oranges, Soursop, Limes, Avocados, Pera, Grapefruit, Aji, Yuka, and more!!! The owners were extremely helpful with planning my hike up the Volcan Baru!! Plus, there is horseback riding!! I'll be back on my next visa run from Costa Rica for sure as it's the closest hostel from the border of Rio Sereno and Paso Canoas. And if you want to , you can paint YOUR GOAL on the wall too!!! The Soursop Hostel is definitely a hostel I'll never forget!!
