Nowhere near as good as it presents itself to be
Firstly, when we arrived after a long, hot and dusty drive we were casually informed that there was no water and wouldn't be any until the next day, so no showers and if we wanted to flush the toilet there was a bucket. This isn't exactly what you expect when you book a place that advertises itself as a 'luxury retreat' and charges close to $100 a night. There was no offer of any compensation because of the inconvenience and in the end we pointedly had to ask if breakfast could be given to us - this was begrudgingly agreed for one day only.
On the second night, a group of rowdy men arrived at the accommodation and proceeded to start drinking and partying. This honestly shocked me as the whole 'vibe' of this accommodation is presented as a peaceful and private retreat where you can enjoy the serenity of the mountains. I couldn't believe that the manager was okay with these men having bottles of whisky on the premises, and allowed their behaviour to escalate until they were drunkenly singing and playing loud music right outside our hut at 11pm at night. Despite repeated requests and ignored phone calls to the manager nothing was done about this behaviour until I demanded a full refund of the night's stay, at which point the drunkards were finally ushered inside their room where they continued to carry on.
In the morning when confronted with this behaviour the manager simply shrugged his shoulders and said they were corporate guests and what could we expect him to do? When I suggested other such retreats often had enforced quiet times from around 9pm he nodded with disinterest. When I asked him whether he was going to refund us the night's stay he said we'd already had a free breakfast and to take it up with Booking.com.
This was a very sad experience as we had so been looking forward to a peaceful retreat in the mountains, and when you fork out $200 for two night's in a supposed 'luxury cabin' you do expect a certain experience, and I feel this place did not provide that at all. I also did not feel very safe as a woman - had I been there on my own with those men carrying on that way I would have felt very unsafe and so I cannot recommend this as a place for couples or females in general.
I also felt the standard of cleanliness of the cabins was subpar. There was mould on the walls and dirty handprints all over the place and just a general air of shabbiness, which again when you are paying a premium price you just expect better. I have paid less and had better experiences in India, and there are so many beautiful places to stay in Bir I honestly cannot recommend this place at all.
In short, avoid this place and don't trust the fake five star reviews.
