It was a very good experience. They helped with bags up and down the stairs. Gave local recommendations for both day life and night life. Very reasonable when we said we didn’t have cash for the hotel tax and room cleaning fee. They did try to explain the building having lots of stairs was not their fault but the law of most European countries which we understand we just felt bad because they had to explain that. I guess most people don’t like stairs but I didn’t mind. Wonderful place.

The room was extremely cold, and the stairwell to the apartment on the 4th floor was very stinky. The room itself fidnt even have proper blankets only sheets, so we had to sleep witv hoodies on..

A good choice if you want to be in the Old Town

Cheerful friendly host (thank you, Toma) who gladly took our bags up the many flights of stairs. Nice large bed, large bathroom, excellent location. Small balcony, not so much for sitting out on necessarily, added to the feel of being in the old town, and it kept the room bright and cheerful.
Up and down several flights of stairs several times is pretty much unavoidable in the Old Town of Split, but worth every step in order to stay in the heart of the town.
Same goes for the late night revelry - ear plugs will make for a good night’s sleep, and we didn’t mind this compromise because it meant we could enjoy the atmosphere, walking around the streets and ruins before and after the cruise ship crowds descend on the Old Town.

Inside the room is nice, basic, clean and convenient. Not “luxury “, but ok. Everything I needed for a couple days except the hot water pot didn’t work. A balcony was advertised but you can’t go outside and the French doors are hard to lock. The air conditioner remote was difficult to operate.
I never met a manager or owner but the communicated fine on WhatsApp. It’s only a few rooms and a young man met me the first day to give me keys and carry my luggage up 4 high stories to the space. That was very appreciated because it’s actually 8 flights of steps!
Note the outside of the building and lobby is quite shabby, dirty and poorly lit. It’s a typical apartment building with many other tenants and not a reflection of the condition of the hotel rooms. I would suggest to the owner to clean up and maintain the outside a bit and put a motion light at the front door. There were shady guys around the front area, one was begging, another approached me and wouldn’t leave me alone, and the vibe was generally weird on that corner. I made sure not to stay out late. Otherwise the area didn’t feel unsafe, just right in front of the door where it was dark. There were usually other people were around.

We had a lovely stay at Bastion. Don’t be fooled the area directly outside the apartment as the interior is very nice. It was a little tricky to get inside but they were quite responsive via WhatsApp.
Overall the room and clean and comfortable and had great AC. The area is very central to everything you need in Split. Great value!
