Incredible stay! Amazing family!
Run by a really really lovely family who couldn’t have been more welcoming!
Room had the most amazing view and provided me with everything I needed.
Food was delicious - I had both breakfast and dinner here everyday - all home cooked and freshly prepared.
The family were able to give lots of advice as to what to do in the local area and Shirodh (one of the sons) is a tour guide - he took me to visit the local sites on two days and I had a great time!
All in all - I couldn’t recommend more!

On cloud 9. Stay above the clouds. 5 star views, food, rooms, family, location
I say that as the room rate is the best in Haputale, the views are amazing,even from the rooms, the homemade food is beautiful, the beds and fleecy blankets are so warm and Cosy. Hot water showers, mosquito nets,(didn't need) no fans or ac required up there. The kind and friendly family, the owner DIAS, his son's daughter and wife are friendly and so kind.
This place is a gem set 3km up the mountain on the road to Lipton seat. There's a regular bus leaving from the main square hourly for a few rupees, just tell them white monkey or Dias rest hotel, they. Usually know the stop. A TUk TUk maybe 500 to 800 depends on your bargaining skills, but mostly I walked down into town. 20 odd minutes down, 30 minutes up. It's well worth the walk for the photo opportunity. From the hotel there are nice walks through the tea plantation along the main road up towards Lipton seat which is a must see. Ask the family about a TUk TUk up there, or you can get a bus half way then walk to Lipton seat viewpoint. But TUk TUk is probably best to get early for the incredible sunrise photos. Promodh the son does TUk TUk excursions. Ask him to show you the eagles point lookout walk just in front of the hotel, it has a separate lookout point even more spectacular than the hotel.!
I would say in finishing if you want somewhere in the town with shops at your doorstep and don't want to bother with buses, TUk tuks or walking, then stay in town. If you want a 5 star hotel with flat screens and 24 hr room service this isn't for you. If you are outgoing, adventurous who loves nature,(monkeys,birds) incredible views, exercise, crisp fresh air, tranquility and to enjoy warm Sri Lankan family hospitality at a very affordable rate, then look no further than white monkey.
Finally, this review must sound like I'm involved with the family as it is so glowing believe me it's not. I'm a single traveling guy who popped into Haputale for 1 night as my friends said I must see the place and I just checked out after 9 NINE NIGHTS. !! i and struggled to leave even then. I'm currently in nuwara eliya pondering going back there for a few days before heading south to the beaches.
Ok finally, some reviews mention negative comments about the rooms I noticed, I think that's because there are some original older style rooms, just older building but the same comfort as the new boutique rooms. They also have triple large rooms,. If they aren't busy you could maybe choose on arrival. I don't know. I found the number from Google maps and called DIAS direct and spoke to him. I prefer to do that when traveling, I don't use bookings for the actual reservation. That's just me. Enjoy your travels folks and have a great stay if you do end up at white monkey..
