Not the planned location, but still fine!

In an e-mail exchange with the proprietor just before arriving in Matera, I was told I would be staying in a different place than the B&B Centrale. After meeting at the B&B (Via IV Novembre), he and a friend helpfully carried my luggage through town to the new location, a room opening directly on the "Salita Castelvecchio". Not "Via" Castelvecchio - "salita" means "a way to go up," rather than a street. In fact it was a narrow passageway with stone steps. It turned out to be a more atmospheric location, just around the corner from the Duomo and much closer than the Via IV Novembre to the "sassi," the ancient districts of now-abandoned cave houses for which Matera is famous. The room and private bath were fine, clean and comfortable with 15-ft. stone vaulted ceilings. I never saw the inside of the original B&B but I imagine the place I stayed was just as good if not better.
The only issue was that I had chosen the Via IV Novembre location and made the reservation well in advance because I had to leave on an early train, and didn't want to be far from the train station. The place they took me was about 3 times as far from the station as the Via IV Novembre, and obviously inaccessible by any kind of vehicle. So I had to leave very early and get myself and my luggage to the train station on foot. (No indication that the proprietor was about to come back at 5:45 AM on the day I was leaving to carry bags all the way to the station!)
In the end, I'm happy about how it worked out, given the great location of the place I ended up staying. However, it might be good to be aware of the possibility of a bit of adventure, i.e. ending up someplace other than the B&B location.

Da dove iniziare

Molto gentile e competente il ragazzo che ci ha accolto e ottimo anche il bar a cui si appoggia questo b&b per le colazioni ma della stanza male male.
La camera è completamente senza finestre, così come anche il bagno dato che si trovano al piano terra in quella che probabilmente prima era una cantina.
L'assenza di finestre rende l'ambiente ostile e poco piacevole.
È necessario stare con una ventola accesa per il ricircolo dell'aria e qusto sicuramente non migliora la valutazione.
Siamo persone che si adattano facilmente a tutto ma questo è un pó tanto...

Visita a Matera

Camera davanti al castello alle porte della zona pedonale gestore molto gentile e disponibile. Possibilità di fare colazione in camera essendoci bollitore vari te e tisane e biscotti vari. Il gestore ci ha consigliato anche una guida Giulio che ci ha fatto visitare i sassi in allegria per circa 3 ore . Ci tornerei e lo consiglio

Per fortuna siamo stati solo una notte!! NON PRENOTATE

Ho prenotato telefonicamente, a 55 euro tasse incluse. Arriviamo in un tugurio, senza finestre, umidissimo, puzzolente e con prese rotte e umidità sui muri cadenti. Mancavano gli asciugami, per non parlare del kit di benvenuto... Sono presenti flaconi di saponi già usati e carta igienica già iniziata... Insomma un beb non degno di 60 euro a notte.
Un inferno di posto, non ho chiuso occhio e ho desiderato come non mai che arrivasse la mattina successiva.
In più il gestore ci ha fatto pagare 60 euro e non 55 come pattuito.
Inoltre le foto su booking non corrispondono a questo tugurio in cui siamo stati. Il vero beb è alla porta accanto. Una truffa bella e buona!

Privo di parcheggio

Stanza piccola, buia perché priva di finestre. Il proprietario del b&b inoltre ci aveva detto che era presente un parcheggio cosa che una volta arrivati non è stato così. Unica cosa positiva la posizione in cui si trova molto centrale.
