I had just completed a four-night stay at the Scandic München Macherei and checked out earlier that morning. Unfortunately, my flight was canceled, and about five hours after leaving the hotel, I unexpectedly found myself needing a room for another night. Since I had just stayed there, I decided to return to the Scandic.
Upon arriving back at the hotel, I was surprised and extremely disappointed to be told that I would have to pay an additional early check-in fee. I had literally just checked out a few hours earlier, and the same staff members were still working and knew that I had been a guest for the previous four nights. Given the circumstances, I thought some basic flexibility and understanding would have been appropriate.
Instead, the staff were completely unwilling to accommodate me or make any exception. After already giving the hotel four nights of business and returning because of circumstances completely outside of my control, being asked to pay an additional fee simply to check in a little early felt ridiculous and unnecessarily rigid.
It’s particularly disappointing because the hotel itself is very nice, comfortable, and conveniently located. I had otherwise enjoyed my experience there. Unfortunately, this interaction really put a damper on my impression of the hotel. Good hospitality is about more than having a nice property, and a little understanding toward a returning guest in an unfortunate situation would have gone a very long way.

We had a very nice stay. Breakfast was good and the staff was very nice. Easily located to the tram system which made for easy connectivity into the city.

Overall really enjoyed my stay here. When I checked in, I let them know I had asked for a quieter room through the app, a message which they had not seen, but the desk staff found me a quiet room, which she explained was smaller than original room so I could always switch back if needed. Very accommodating. Room was very quiet and sound proof with windows closed. It’s a bit far from city center but there’s a tram right outside and an Aldi right next door which was convenient. Overall, great value for cost if you want quiet and clean and don’t mind a bit outside city center.
Only unideal thing was the mini fridge was the tiniest I’ve ever seen (not sure if it would have been bigger in my original room). I use mini fridges at hotels to store breakfast and snacks and it really was only meant for a few drinks so I couldn’t store everything I wanted- small complaint that probably would impact most visitors.

Okay for business trips, but price-performance and cleanliness are disappointing
Okay for a business trip, but the price-performance ratio is so-so. As an allergy sufferer, I cannot recommend it; air conditioning is available - yes, but it blasts all night long, regardless of what you set on the room thermostat. A cold was therefore inevitable. The beds are anything but comfortable, already seem very worn out, and are also not particularly clean. As someone with a house dust allergy, this is THE indicator of cleanliness for me.
Staff friendly, except for those at the breakfast buffet! Sustainability aside - the bottom line is there are better hotels in this price category. For me, the location/proximity to the workplace for the business trip was the only criterion for this hotel.

Great hotel with a central location
We are already at the Scandic Hotel Munich for the second time.
The hotel is very well-maintained, the rooms are absolutely clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable.
The breakfast at the hotel was very extensive and delicious; there was also a large selection of various treats for the children.
The staff is consistently very friendly and attentive! We are already looking forward to our next visit to Munich.
