Portside Lodge

Good on the whole
We had a truly lovely stay at Portside Lodge. The apartment was spotlessly clean, well equipped with everything we needed, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our visit. One of the highlights was the heated pool, maintained at a comfortable 30°C, a fantastic feature that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Although there weren’t many sun loungers available, this didn’t turn out to be a problem. The pool area tended to be busier in the mornings, particularly with families and young children, which might be less relaxing for those seeking quiet time, but it didn’t bother us personally. Overall, the property was well maintained and presented.
We did encounter a minor issue with the television not working upon arrival, but it was promptly resolved by reception, which we greatly appreciated. The only downside was the balcony, while clean, it overlooked a neglected courtyard, making it less appealing for extended use. Still, it was suitable for short periods of outdoor relaxation.
The surrounding town was quite small but had all the essentials, including a convenient shop just across the road and a few enjoyable restaurants, we especially recommend Summer Nights. The area did appear somewhat run down, though this seemed to be a common characteristic in parts of Malta.
Public transport was available nearby, but we found the buses frequently overcrowded and often unable to stop due to lack of space. As a result, we relied on Uber and Bolt, which were efficient and reasonably priced. Valletta was about 20 minutes away and cost around €15. For beach outings, we discovered that most southern beaches were rocky, so we opted to travel north instead, with fares around €30.
In summary, we would absolutely stay at Portside Lodge again for the quality of the accommodation and service, though we might consider a different location next time.

Great stay at Portside Lodge.
We had a wonderful stay at Portside Lodge. I saw three apartments, as my own family plus my Mum and Mother-in-Law stayed. All apartments were lovely and so well equipped. We had picked a sea view terrace; apartments at the back of the building lower down don't have such a great view.... The pool area is gorgeous and I went up at 9am every morning and had the pool to myself. A small problem with a noise issue was dealt with so brilliantly by Charles the director and the whole team - customer service done properly! We had lovely meals at Summer Nights, Grabiel and especially Taninu. Buses do get crowded but are still a brilliant way to get around, we also used Uber quite a bit which were very reliable and inexpensive. All in all a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Perfectly Serviced, with one of the best views in bay. Great for families of 4
We took the 2-bedroom apartment which is on the top floor. It's the only accomodation on that floor and therefore has the swimming pool next door to eat. There is a main balcony off the main living rooms that is a terrace where you can sit drinking a glass of wine while looking out onto the picturesque bay. The kitchen a a proper kitchen and there is air-conditioning in every room, as well as fans in the bedroom that means if you don't like sleeping with aircon on, you can use the fans instead. Frankly we could not fault anything about the apartment which has two bathrooms, one with a shower and another with a large square bath. The bedrooms are distanced from each other nicely so parents can feel as though they are going into their own part of the apartment. One of the bathrooms is ensuite to the master, and there is also a small balcony where you can sit out and enjoy the peace and tranquility. TV has netflix and Prime so once you've added your account details that all works, as does the internet.
The hotel has a games room with a pool table, mini football and some games for smaller children as well as a gym with adequate amounts of equipement to for anyone that wants to burn calories.
The hotel has parking, and this is paid as an extra but is very reasonable. It's assigned parking as well meaning you don't have any problems getting you space. At night the parking door closes and you have a remote to open the gate, essentially a private garage.
There are plenty of shops - there are three minimarts within 10 metres and a despar nearby for stocking up on larger items. Everything you need is nearby. The main bay is literally a 30 second walk.
The position of hotel means that the main towns on the Island are easily reachable, and there are a really good variety of places to go snorkeling and swimming.
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and communication was very easy. Service is professional and with a smile.
If we came back to Malta, we'd come back here as it has everything we need. The kids also really enjoyed it as well, so that's a full 10/10 for Portside lodge. Thanks to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

Great service
We arrived slept in our room. There was a noise issue (beyond their control), we complained. The response from the management was fantastic. Immediately given other room and later upgraded to even better room with great view, upgrade free of charge . Problem solved immediately and very professional, recommend this place

Nice accommodation
Very clean and central with lovely rooftop pool albeit i agree with some comments about lack of space. Do they need a small kids play hut? Never saw it used and could get another 4 loungers in space. Seems a place where large families converge and they do take over.
One down side is the noise from the front road. Very busy traffic thus balcony not the most relaxing place.
Marsaskala was fine for us but limited at night. Would be lovely if they pedestiansed the road at the front so the cafes / restaurants could expand there floor space. Think the resort will mushroom over the next couple of years but not convinced they have the infrastructure to cope.
