A Fun and Cozy Stay

This was/still is hostel, set up as a hostel-like place with shared bathrooms and shared living room/kitchen area. I was there midweek during snowy weather, for a work event in nearby downtown and had the entire place to myself! It was a little lonely, actually. I don't know how it would have been had I had to share the space with others, but of the 4 rooms, only mine was occupied. Totally reminded me of a favorite place I lived in college, a historic boarding house also with shared bathrooms and living areas. My cozy bedroom had a lock on the door and the outer door was accessed via key card.
Nice bedding. I slept well.
The front desk for the Barefoot Inn is in the adjacent Swisshotel and Sabina at the desk was very helpful by phone and email when my flight was delayed and when I had to check in after 10:00pm.
It's truly the Barefoot Inn-- you are required to remove your shoes upon entry. From the icy slop on the sidewalks outside you can see why.
The space is very cute and nicely appointed. The bedrooms are all upstairs. There is one full bath upstairs and a powder room downstairs next to the kitchen. The kitchen has a college dorm vibe... hot plate, etc. Full fridge. You are requested to mark your food with your name and check-out date.
It's a couple block walk to downtown, so it was an easy stroll to the convention center, and near all of the businesses on busy Rideau Street. Close to public transportation. Lots of foot traffic outside all day and night due to nearby university.
Great little historic building and nostalgic feel.

Stayed at Swiss Hotel Ottawa and it was a surprisingly frustrating experience. What started as a normal stay quickly turned uncomfortable due to poor communication and questionable handling of a situation that didn’t warrant escalation.
Instead of resolving things professionally, the response felt abrupt and unnecessary, leaving a bad impression overall. Not the kind of hospitality you expect when booking a place to relax.
Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking for a smooth, hassle-free stay

The bedroom is small but clean. The only downside is shared washroom and shower room for the price I paid.
