Good Budget Stay Near Montreal, But Some Inconveniences for Families
We stayed at Comfort Inn Laval for 2 nights during our Montreal family road trip. Overall, it was a decent budget-friendly option compared to hotels in downtown Montreal. The free parking and included breakfast were definitely helpful, especially since we rented a car and drove into the city each day.
The rooms were clean and comfortable enough for our family, and we appreciated getting connecting rooms, which made traveling with 4 adults and 4 kids much easier. The location in Laval was convenient for road trippers, about 30 minutes from downtown Montreal, depending on traffic.
However, there were a few downsides. The biggest issue was the lack of an elevator. Carrying luggage, strollers, and kids’ belongings up the stairs to the second floor was not fun. Soundproofing was also limited, especially when children were running in the hallway. Another inconvenience was that there was no kettle in the room, so getting hot water meant walking to the reception area.
Breakfast was included but fairly limited in variety. Service was okay, though we didn’t interact much with the staff during our stay.
Overall, I’d rate it around 3.5/5. It’s a practical hotel for budget travelers and families doing a road trip around Montreal, but there are definitely areas that could be improved.

Ok Hôtel
Hotel was modern and clean. Friendly staff and great service. Clean sheets and the beds were made every day. Beds weren’t confie. I got a back ache after 2 nights. Regular breakfast with moderate choices. This hotel is good for short stays!!

Not so good.
We were more than disappointed. During our stay we unfortunately noted several negative points. Upon arrival, we had to use a cart more than obsolete. Speaking of obsolete, we could use that term for a lot of things in this motel. Oh no, sorry, this is a hotel. The fan in the bathroom does not work, as do the keys to the room, which, on the other hand, work once out of 3. The telephone is also non-functional. Fortunately, the fridge and microwave are usable, but not super clean. We had to wash the fridge and the bathroom (because there was some hair left in the bath) before using it (despite the low water pressure).
The customer service leaves much to be desired. No smiling, the staff use clean white shower towels to pick up the damage in the lunch room.
Speaking of lunch... Coffee is one of the worst I've had in a hotel, eggs are as bad as coffee. Otherwise, the rest of the lunch offer is variable, but remains low level.
For someone who drives 6 hours to have surgery, an elevator or extra help would have been more than appreciated. Refusal to bring us an extra chair in order to be 3 people comfortably settled in the room for a few days. It is poorly insulated and the noisy bedroom doors were not the kind of alarm clock wanted.
We were threatened with being kicked out if we did not pay promptly, when there was no confirmation of anything with the clinic.
3 people who had travelled 6 hours, including one who teleworked and was disturbed by disrespect in the hallways, and stressed because she did not know what was going on with the room and whether she would have to tell her bosses that she had to leave the room immediately.
The value for money is not great either. The carpets, like the rest of the hotel's cleanliness, are poor, the general amenities are outdated and the mattresses are not comfortable.

For the price go elsewhere
This is an old hotel that needs love. It's dirty, it smells like moisture and there's mold on the windows and a serious moisture problem with the windows oozing. For the price go your way.

Will not return !!!
For the price, go elsewhere because this hotel charges way too much for what you're going to get. Dirty carpet, in huge need of renovation (the towel rack came off after a few hours, the bath was not at all inviting, the curtains were patched, the thermosthat was coming loose and so on. On arrival, the young man was not the nicest but the rest of the team we met were. Only positive thing, the beds seemed clean even after finding something questionable (dirt? Bug? not sure) and were comfortable. The breakfast was not always at the right temperature. The food that should have been hot was warm at best, there is no elevator and no swimming pool. So for the price they charge do yourself a favour and go elsewhere because this hotel is not worth the expense.
