A Hidden Gem Filled with History and Charm

Our stay at Chesley’s Inn in Cornwall was an unforgettable experience. This magnificent house from 1814 is absolutely stunning — exceptionally well decorated, filled with beautiful artwork, exquisite furniture, and so much character in every corner. It feels less like a regular stay and more like stepping into a place rich with history, culture, and charm.
One of the highlights was definitely our host, Robert. He is the kind of person you instantly want to sit down and chat with. Having travelled extensively, he always has fascinating stories to tell, making every conversation interesting and memorable.
If you love arts, history, and culture, this is truly the perfect place to stay.
And the breakfast… simply amazing. We still remember the delicious French toast with fresh strawberries — easily one of the best breakfasts of our entire trip.
Thank you, Robert, for such a wonderful and memorable stay. We hope to return someday.

For the charm of an old house

Nice hostel in an old house with lots of charm. The owner is very welcoming and the breakfasts delicious. Unfortunately we had the smallest room, the only one available.

Lovely building, but if you are from the US or a Christian, you might want to choose another option.

The building is lovely, clean, and well appointed. The rooms are comfortable, though the bathrooms small which could be challenging for mobility challenged guests. Recommendations about local eateries were fantastic and the host is interesting if not very diplomatic in his views toward the United States and its administration. It made for a very uncomfortable breakfast. The decor is eclectic though it does include several prominently placed Satanic statues (Baphomet). They are visible in the online pictures (in the dining room and under the glass cloche in the upstairs landing). We were not invited to use the common areas. We arrived to breakfast 15 minutes early to enjoy some coffee as a group around the table as we waited. Our host greeted us by saying "I thought 8:30 meant 8:30". Loads of potential, but I would not stay again.

A hint, if you’re a guest in a country that your leader is currently attacking, threatening with annexation, breaking trade agreements with illegal tariffs and belittling our leadership, it’s probably not a good idea to ask your host what he thinks of your country! You were fishing for reactions when you asked where I wanted to visit in the United States. I answered honestly that for the fore seeable future I wouldn’t feel comfortable traveling in the US. I am not comfortable in a place where a government functionary can demand that I give the passcodes to my social media or lap top. I would be very uncomfortable to a country, whether it’s North Korea or the US, where masked, armed agents of the government can grab me off the street and lock me up without any constitutional rights. According to current surveys at least half of all Canadians feel the same about travel to the US. I apologize for my lack of diplomacy but if you dan’ t want the answer, don’t ask the question.
Interestingly, you seem to be very well-informed about satanism. Personally I have no idea who or what Baphomet is? The Christian church I was raised in spent more time studying the teachings of Christ, things like “love thy neighbour,” rather than memorizing the names of devils. Had you had the intellectual curiosity to ask about the sculpture I would have told you it’s by the well-known Toronto sculpture and is called “The Dancing Cow, La Vache qui Danse.” It’s a playful piece about women in mythology raging from the priestesses of Knossos who jumped through the horns of the bulls to biblical Eve presenting the apple of temptation. It seems that you have a rather dark imagination.
I continue to welcome many wonderful American guests, as well as people of all faiths.

Hospitality at its best at every level.

This was our second visit to Auberge Chesley's Inn in less than two months, so we figured Amish the dog would instantly appreciate us upon our visit, and he did. Innkeeper Robert is a delight, a great storyteller. His inn is a winner at every level. Can't wait for our third visit!

Lovely Inn in a histric building.

Chesley's Inn is a great place to stay. The historic property is lovely, as are the peaceful, private and pretty gardens. Robert is a great host. We enjoyed two lovely days cycling and exploring Cornwall. We stayed in the inn keepers quarters which were spacious, well equipped and very clean.
