Very nice place, quiet.

Once and never again.

We were greeted in a friendly manner by the owner, we were there for 2 nights, the mattresses were very filthy and saggy, the furniture was worn, the toilet and the bathroom were accessible via the hallway, the toilet and the hallway were also used by the owner, the room smelled as if it had not been used for months.
The young girl who was responsible for breakfast was very unfriendly.

Welcome and host at the top

A wonderful stay in this charming guest room! The welcome was exceptional, Gilles was extremely available and warm throughout my stay. The room was comfortable and decorated with care. The location was ideal, perfect for working quietly. If necessary, Gilles was responsive and ready to help me. I felt really taken care of. An experience to renew without hesitation!

Great Host

Great host, relaxed atmosphere, great place to chill. Beautiful house. Its not perfection but that is what gives it its charm. If we are ever back in this area we will definitely stay here. Owner couldn't have been nicer.

A great place to stay!

Le Mas de Rey is a great place if you want to get away from the hustle and noise of city or hotel living for a few days.
The B&B forms part of an old farmhouse in the rural area just south of Avignon. There are three upstairs bedrooms, each with ensuite, and a common-area downstairs lounge with couches and a TV. The ensuite shower is good, with lots of hot water and excellent water pressure. the bed is very comfortable, and our south-facing room had a lovely balcony looking over the front of the property. The room we had was clean and tidy, relavtively spacious and with plenty of drawer/cupboard space for taking things out of suitcases for a few days!
Breakfast is petite dejeuner style (which is what you want/expect when you're staying in rural France). The food is fresh and good, and there's plenty of it. And the coffee's good, too!
The setting is a rural property with lots of trees, three very friendly dogs, two donkeys and so very quiet! There's not a whole lot to do except sit and look or read a book, which is really the point of being there.
The owner, Gilles, lives on the property. He is a very friendly, very obliging man, happy to chat and full of knowledge of local places to visit.
You will need a car to get to Le Mas de Rey (preferably with a GPS!), and drive time into the centre of Avignon is around 10 minutes along country lanes. Although there are local restaurants in Rognonas, they close at around 7pm so you either go into to Avignon for dinner or grab some food and a bottle of wine, take it back to the house and sit and have a picnic tea under the huge plane tree outside the lounge with the dogs lying at your feet.
If you dine in the walled part of Avignon, I recommend missing out most of the restaurants at the bottom of the town and heading up to the square by the Palace des Papes where there are excellent outdoor pizza-&-beer places.
The property is a great central spot for visiting local attractions. In five days there we went on day excursions to the Pont du Gard, the town of Uzes, Arles, the shore of the Mediterranean and to the Millau viaduct.
Would I go back to Le Mas de Rey? You betcha!
Value for money - excellent!!
