A Slice of Jungle Paradise – Gaia River Lodge Exceeded Every Expectation
I recently stayed at Gaia River Lodge in Mountain Pine Ridge, and it was nothing short of amazing from start to finish. We were greeted with refreshing cool towels and a welcome drink, a perfect touch right from our arrival.
The setting alone is worth the trip. The lodge is tucked in the jungle and sits at the edge of a mountain overlooking the Pine Ridge, with natural waterfalls right below on the property. We hiked down to the falls and back up, and I loved that they also have a trolley for anyone who'd rather skip the stairs. Our cabin looked right out over the falls and the edge of the ridge, so it genuinely felt like sleeping in nature. Falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waterfall was such a beautiful, peaceful experience.
The rooms were spotless and thoughtfully done, right down to the creative art laid out on the bed when we arrived- such a sweet welcome touch.
Service across the board was excellent. Every staff member made us feel genuinely welcome, and the bartenders and servers like Javier were attentive without ever being intrusive. And the food- every single meal was delicious. We had tacos for lunch, and they were even able to serve them at the river below. It's clear the kitchen takes real care in what they serve.
Chris, the after-dinner entertainer, was a highlight. We had a great time with his magic tricks.
If you're looking for a jungle escape that combines adventure, comfort, and top-notch hospitality, Gaia River Lodge delivers on every level. We can't wait to go back!

Just stay here!!!
We stayed at Gaia Riverlodge for our honeymoon and it was the most special place. For a once in a lifetime kind of trip, I am so happy we chose this location. There are many excellent reviews on here that I agree with. As someone who has had a fortune of many different travel experiences (from Japan to South Africa to Guatemala), Gaia is easily one of my favorite places I have ever stayed.
We were fortunate to spent time with Greg as he took us to and from Gaia, as well as on our Barton Creek cave tour and our night walk. We learned so much from him and felt so lucky he was our guide! Rick was our guide when we went to Caracol, with over 20+ years of experience and knowledge, we loved our day with him as well.
On site we had so many great interactions with staff members. Kobi, Daren, Lucy and Javier took care of us during our stay and we felt so cared for by them!
Suprises & notable memories:
- Coffee delivered to our room each morning!
- The food was better than we could have dreamed, some of the best meals of our life! We were particularly fond of the squash beignets and all of the delicious drinks.
- Excellent Wi-Fi for being in the forest!
- No AC in rooms but with multiple fans and cooling at night, we were okay & we like it cold while we sleep!
- August was a great time to visit, less busy! But shh don't tell anyone... It is technically their hurricane season but we were lucky with only light showers at night.
- We loved the sounds of the rainforest at night and in the morning. Bugs & birds! This may bother sensitive people and they provided ear plugs just in case but personally I loved it, it was like a sound machine.
- We were prepared with bug spray but only saw one mosquito. Other non-biting/stinging bugs were there of course (it's the rainforest!) but we didn't mind. Plus each bed has a bug net that is very effective.
- Recommend having a good pair of sneakers or hiking shoes for day trips & night walks.
We have recommended Gaia to family, friends and we will definitely be back someday.

An outstanding and unique resort with a waterfall !
Exceptiona resort with outstanding service. Very exclusive. They have a waterfall on the hotel property. The rooms are outstanding. The only limitation was limited dining menu.
I would sttrongly recommend this property for couples or families.

Amazing Solo Trip
Staying at Gaia is truly a breathtaking experience. The property is gorgeously maintained & the staff go above & beyond to make you feel at home. Rahim made me laugh many nights at the bar & always had the perfect cocktail suggestions. Javier greeted me in the mornings with the perfect cappuccino & a smile. Even though I was traveling alone there was always someone there for me. I cannot wait to visit again.

August at Gaia Riverlodge
We stayed at Gaia Riverlodge in August of 2026. The location is beautiful, with cabanas sitting on a cliff overlooking a river and the 5 sisters waterfall. The lodge sits at the intersection of the mountain pine forest and the rain forest, providing two environments to explore. There is an excellent hike through the rain forest, which the lodge dog Coco decided to take with us. We found a small waterfall area and spotted some interesting birds on this hike. One of us had a massage down by the river and it was excellent. The staff is uniformly cheerful and friendly and they go to the trouble to remember your name. Because we really enjoy birding, they gave us a free 1 hr guided bird walk with the local naturalist. The rooms are not air conditioned but the fan and open screened windows helped with air flow. Downsides were that there really is no biking as the bike ride to the Big Rock Falls is all uphill and when we asked about other trails, they said there were none. We noticed that the deck railings were not well-constructed with vertical cross bars no longer secured to the horizontal bars; there are warning signs about leaning on the railings. We were both under the weather for a night and a day mid-stay and appreciated that the pedialyte was provided for free as the two pieces of toast we asked for during recovery were billed at $10 US. Food was generally expensive except for the continental breakfasts which were included in the rate and very good. I think we booked too long a stay (6 nights) and a 3 day stay would be sufficient.
