Simply sad.
After the transfer of the business from Heinz Schwander to Iduna Holding, there was initially practically no change in hospitality or cuisine. The appointed managing director, Jakub Kroll, continued the company in the spirit of the former host solidly.
After the surprising removal of Mr. Kroll by Iduna Holding, a steadily negative development of the establishment became apparent under the appointed managing director, Mr. Fries. This could be observed in the streamlined menu and wine lists, the reduction of staff, and the frequently changing responsibilities in the kitchen.
Our last visit as guests at a family event last Sunday reinforced our perception of the continuous decline of the establishment. Of the existing service staff, only one familiar face remains, who, according to their statement, has already signed a new employment contract.
However, we were most disappointed by the kitchen, starting with a salad that required sorting out spoiled leaves and was served with a little watery dressing. The soup that followed came more like a thick sauce and was also disappointing to the palate. Only with the main course, a beef tenderloin, could nothing be criticized except for the size of the meat portion.
We find it sad and dramatic how such a well-known gourmet establishment, recognized beyond the cantonal borders, could be ruined in such a short time due to many poor decisions. Here, the apparent lack of expertise from the owning holding company and overly high expectations for quick returns are evident. We hope for a swift change in ownership that focuses more on hospitality than on maximum profit. Perhaps that will happen, so we can return to our beloved Bad Eptingen!
