The Peponi twenty years later

The Peponi is my favorite hotel in the world. Everything that I want in a hotel is here. Everything I don’t care about is not. I came here twenty years ago to almost the day and it was magical. I was a little worried on return it would feel changed, and not in a good way. My fears vanished as soon as I stepped off the boat. The food, staff, generosity, rooms…all even better. As someone who professionally studies culture for a living, they have caught lightning in a bottle and created something incredibly special. One thing I do know. It won’t be twenty years before I return again. The Peponi is heaven on earth for me, and if looking for the best experience hotel wise of food, service and a kind of chill ambiance that cannot be manufactured, it is well worth considering.

Lovely experience! The mu is a magical place! Peponi is excellent! Super comfortable rooms and great food! Perfect location! We will definitely return! I know Kenya well but Lamu is unique! Highly recommended

Paradise

It is my second time I booked at peponi (last time it was 2001 if I am not mistaking), and I had few meals at the restaurant 3 years before while staying in another structure in sheila. The position is just perfect: Sheila (better than lamu), and on the South part of the city where is more windy and it is a bit cooler. Staff is super starting from management to waiters. Rooms are beaitiful. I suggest the ones un the upper side. The hotel in general is a dream of place. Important notice: high standards kept during years. I hope to have the possibility to come back soon..

Where else would you stay if you want a hotel?

Not only is this the best hotel on the coast, it also has the best seafood restaurant in kenya. The staff are professionals, well trained, friendly. The rooms are awesome. The location in Sheila is perfect.

Peponi of the past

Peponi Hotel has the celebrity history, but the accommodation doesn’t match the experience you’d want to have.
It depends what you’re looking for - but the rooms are very basic, no AC, no hair dryer, hard beds, a rudimentary ceiling fan and well worn towels.
Food and service are ‘OK’.
Worth a visit to sit on the terrace for a sundowner, but Lamu has increasingly more options available for more comfortable places to stay for a few days.
