If you’re looking for a great weekend trip from Zagreb, try embarking on a four and a half hour drive down to Split. Split is a picturesque city on the coast full of foreign markets and food. The town’s vibe is relaxed – it’s a phenomenal place to sit outside sipping wine while taking in the view. The real highlight of the city is Diocletian's Palace, which was built for an ancient Roman emperor.
Split is wonderful place to see in Croatia. I loved the coast and I would love to see it again. To be honest, I would definitely want to visit again this summer, but we are still not sure. Although, Split is a incredible city. The thing we liked the most was the famous Dioklecijan Palace, which is absolutely extraordinary. The tour guide explained us everything and we were fascinated with it. It belonged to the Romans Emperor which is super cool to listen and see. Although everything is kind of different there are still some thing left from that time. I recommend this place to everyone.
Split is great place to wander in June. Loads of historical buildings, restaurants, a maze of streets. Compact size, friendly people.
We just got back from a short one week vacation from Split, Croatia and I have to tell you that it is a real gem for anyone who loves to spend quality time in a quality place. This location has it all - historical cities, monuments for those who like to learn a bit while traveling (just a few of my recommendations: Diocletian's Palace,Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius, Ivan Mestrovic Gallery), the perfect climate for everyone, and of course the magical Adriatic Sea. If you book a hotel make sure to book as close to the shore as possible. Although this time we chartered a great boat from Sailo (last time we had a good deal with them in Oyster Bay as well). It is like killing a bird with one stone - if you know what I mean - you have the accommodation and you have the entertainment, all in one. And of course, if you are a gourmand you will be in a paradise: amazing local cuisine, fresh seafood etc. Best week in Europe this far. What do you think we should visit next? Any recommendation?
