This was my first trip to Crawley, it takes a long time to travel to from London but when I got there I was pleasantly surprised. Defo need to explore further in the future. A giant football tho so awesome ;)
While it's been continuously inhabited since the Stone Age, poor Crawley enjoys the fate of being somewhere the majority of people merely pass through. If you've ever flown to or from London's Gatwick Airport then you qualify as having been through Crawley. The town is understandably popular as home for air crew who are based at the nearby airport. Curiously, a lesser-known fact is that it's also home to around 5,000 people dispossessed from the Indian Ocean atoll of Digeo Garcia. The atoll is officially British sovereign territory but following its lease to the US during the 1960s and the installation of military bases in 1971 which continue to be active to the present day, the people of Diego Garcia were told to leave - in some cases with barely a day's notice. For those first dispossessed from their island home, their first port of call in the UK was Gatwick Airport and steadily others joined them to form the community they have in Crawley today. Hopefully one day soon they'll be able to return home.
not that good
